Everyone has their favorite computer games they play all the time. It’s usually because they are unbelievable. The kind of games you can play for hours and never get bored with. These are the ones that always get worn out because they are never out of our machines. But there’s other games we love playing for a different reason. We love to be scared out of our socks.

Some horror games tap into emotions we would only get from watching the latest Halloween movie, as Michael Myers chases someone with a giant knife. Are they great games? Sure, but the fright we get from playing them is the best thing about them. Let’s have a look at the ones over the years that have frightened us the most. The ones we would think twice about playing in the dark without someone else with us.

Imagine being stuck on a spaceship and trying to find your girlfriend before it’s too late. That sounds bad enough, but when you have aliens throwing dead bodies at you it can get quite scary. There’s plenty of moments in Dead Space where you will be shocked and appalled. Everything blends together beautifully to keep you on the edge of your seat.

If you haven’t played it before and fancy a fright then check it out.

Resident Evil has always been a scary computer game. When you’re trying to avoid flesh-eating zombies it can be a shock to the system when they jump out at you from nowhere and start chewing on your neck. The reason Resident Evil 4 is so good is that it took all the scary parts from the first games and added some realistic graphics that bring them to life even more.

It definitely deserves its place as the scariest Resident Evil so far, but I’m sure it will be topped in the future.

You play the part of someone with amnesia who must explore an underwater city searching for answers. You are definitely not alone in this strange world and are constantly being stalked by the people of Rapture City.

Brutal murders, mutant little girls, and hideous guardians all play their part in making you cautiously turn around as you make your way through the lost city of BioShock.

You get to put yourself in the shoes of an escaped lunatic from an asylum and walk around playing baseball with peoples heads. Due to some of the kill scenes being so scary, they were shown in black and white. Manhunt 2 is pretty simple. Kill people in unique ways.

It’s definitely not something you should let young children play, and if you do they shouldn’t be allowed to leave home until they forget everything they have seen.

The Silent Hill series is very scary and will give you chills. Just like Resident Evil it’s also had a chance to shine on the big-screen. But the games were where it all started and you definitely won’t want to play them if you get scared.

Silent Hill 2 is probably the scariest out of them all and there’s a lovely big twist if you like those. It will make you feel more disturbed than excited.

In Amnesia: The Dark Descent you also play the role of an amnesia victim, but you wake up in a castle in the nineteenth century. Your mission is to get out of the castle without going crazy or being killed. It seems like a good idea, right? But instead of being armed with anything to defend yourself you need to get away from the monsters by hiding.

It’s also got some great puzzles you have to solve, so it’s not just about frights.

Microsoft showed off a teaser trailer for Gears of War: Judgment during E3 2012. The latest entry into the Gears of War series is being developed by the Bulletstorm developers People Can Fly.

You can check out the trailer below, showcasing a new squad – the Kilo Squad led by a young Baird, Cole and two new characters – Garron Paduk and Sofia Hendricks.

Baird is shown in shackles standing trial for treason during the early days of the COG army’s war against the Locusts, and yeah, we also get to see scenes of Locusts and COG soldiers. There are also some snippets of gameplay footage such as the good old grenade tossing a locust hole and watching some locusts be blown to bits. (as Marcus would say in his gritty voice, “niiice”)

Gears of War: Judgment is set 15 years before the events of the first game and it will feature class-based multiplayer, a first for the series. The game will be out in 2013 for the Xbox 360. You can check out the sweet artworks featured in the gameinformer covers below:

Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed God of War: Ascension, the next entry in the God of War series. You wanted God of War 4 and you got it!

So far a teaser trailer has been released and the story will explore the origins of the Spartan warrior Kratos. This is being called the most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far (How will they top God of War 3?! plus hasn’t Kratos pwned all of the gods? Will Ares make a return? , can’t bloody wait!)

Electronic Arts and Crytek have gone ahead and officially announced Crysis 3 that will be releasing in 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

EA is describing Crysis 3 as the ultimate sandbox shooter, where gamers will get to fight in the New York ‘Liberty Dome’, exploit Seven Natural Wonders (wha…will we check out the Amazon Forest?) and use Alien weaponry.

Plot wise, here’s the official statement for Crysis 3:

Set in 2047, Prophet is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation’s motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces.

In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL’s covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination. With Alien Ceph lurking around every corner and human enemies on the attack, nobody is safe in the path of vengeance. Everyone is a target in Prophet’s quest for retribution.

Check out the Mass Effect 3 extended trailer titled ‘Take Back Earth’.

There is no need to deny the beauty of BioWare’s CG trailers and they don’t disappoint, the extended trailer adds about a minute and half of footage to the one and it looks epic. The soundtrack used in the trailer is by ‘Two Steps From Hell‘.

If you want the gist of the trailer, it begins with The Reaper invasion of Earth, they invade our planet without warning and causes devastation on a level that would make Independance Day look like puppy talk. The Reapers go about turning us into “husks” aka, techno zombies.

But hey, it’s cool, at around 2:00 minutes, Commander Shepard shows up with the uber hot babe Ashley Williams and a god damn army. That’s right, it’s time to kick ass and this time, it’s personal.  You don’t bring the fight to our home world Reaper scum!

On the whole, it’s a great trailer. I still find Mass Effect 2′s CGI trailer more grand but hey, this is Mass Effect 3 and boy have we been waiting.

The game will be out for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on the following dates:

- March 6th in America
- March 8th in Australia
- March 9th in Europe
- March 15th in Japan

Resident Evil 6, who knew an announcement would happen so soon? Capcom surprised everyone by announcing a new game in the renowned Resident Evil series with a new trailer and concept artwork.

The game will be out on November 20 2012 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. PC will also see a release at a later date. Resident Evil 6 will see the return of Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield leading their own campaign mode through USA and China.

Regarding the plot for Resident Evil 6, Capcom has mentioned the following: ”It has been ten years since the Raccoon City incident and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place in the belief that it will curb the current resurgence in bioterrorist activity. Due to be by the President’s side is his personal friend and Raccoon City survivor, Leon S. Kennedy, but when the venue suffers a bioterrorist attack, Leon is forced to face a President transformed beyond recognition and make his hardest ever decision.

At the same time, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance member Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack. With no country safe from these attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world’s population is united by a common fear that there is no hope left.”

Sounds good huh? I can’t wait for Resident Evil 6. Until we get more information, you can check out the HD announcement trailer below:

P.S. Is it me or do you guys think Leon sounded like Bradley Cooper in the beginning when he had his gun up? If not Bradley, someone definitely familiar. Leon looks different too, I wonder if Claire will make an appearance, that would be epic!

Remedy Entertainment has released new screens for Alan Wake’s American Nightmare. The downloadable XBLA game will be out in Q1 2012 and the new screens show off the enemies and environments Alan will be facing this time around. The game will again be an exclusive to the Xbox 360.

Did you know it isn’t a sequel to the first game? It’s more of an independent game set within the same universe. (Don’t freak out on me! I wanted a sequel too!)

The Last of Us is a new game from Naughty Dog, the lords that brought us the incredible Uncharted series. The new game was unveiled in a trailer at VGA 2011 and it is a departure from the Uncharted games.

The trailer reminds me of ‘I am Legend’ – a lone survivor (in this case a bearded dude and a young girl) trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world that is overrun with zombies (well, instead of zombies we have got mutant brocolli headed monsters – bronsters?!)

Here’s what the press release says:

Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on.

Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

The game is an exclusive for the Playstation 3 and will be out in 2012!

Ubisoft has released concept art and details regarding their next entry into the Tom Clancy series. Titled Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots, the game will have you take on a new threat called the “True Patriots” (MGS?!)

You’ll be battling with an enhanced squad management system, new rappel and breach mechanics and a brand new scan mode to strategically breach and infiltrate areas. It’s kinda like Batman’s detective mode –  thermal vision and all.

Here’s the official wording from Ubisoft:

Team Rainbow faces a new and very real threat called the “True Patriots,” a highly-trained, well-organized group of militias. The True Patriots are capitalizing on the growing sense of frustration and anger in a modern day America that they feel is irrevocably corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests. Square Enix has released a new CG trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2 and this one’s a goody. The latest trailer shows final fantasy babe lightning fighting against protoganist Caius in Valhalla.

It’s epic and just makes me long for more Final Fantasy CG movies, (Advent Children was awesome!)

Check out the trailer below and JRPG fans just need to wait a little longer for the release of the game on either Playstation 3 or Xbox 360.  Japan will see it launch on 15th December, USA on 31st January and Europe on February 2012 (We always get things last, WTF?!)

Metal Gear Solid: Rising, you would think it would be some awesome news like a new trailer, a demo or news that the military is in fact creating a real life Raiden on a project codenamed “Les Enfants Terribles”.

But no, we ain’t that lucky. The news we have is that Shigenobu Matsuyama is no longer producing Metal Gear Solid: Rising, but the reins has been passed onto Yuji Korekado. That’s right, Kojima passed it on to Shigenobu, and he’s passed it on to Yuji. (I swear it’s like a basketball game!)

The news was confirmed via Twitter by Kojima Productions.

Let’s be optimistic, the game might be so incredible that a single person can’t contain it’s uber awesomeness on their own!  Whatever the case, I just want more info on the game.
